Registrations of new electric vehicles double in September
Bad Homburg. Registrations of new electric vehicles in Germany increased by 99.7 percent in September. 9,459 new electric vehicles were registered by the Federal Motor Transport Authority. Since the beginning of the year, 74,541 new electric vehicles have been registered (plus 48.4 percent). This represents a 2.7 percent share of the total passenger car market. The VDIK member companies achieved an electrical market share of 37.9 percent.
New registrations of battery-electric passenger cars (BEVs) increased particularly strongly: 47,903 BEVs have been sold since the beginning of the year, an increase of 149.5 percent. In addition, 26,487 new plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) were sold on the roads. The increase here was 3.6 percent.
Reinhard Zirpel, President of the Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (VDIK) stressed: “New registrations of electric vehicles continued to grow strongly in September. Nevertheless, the momentum still has to increase significantly. In the first nine months of this year, the best-selling battery electric car in Germany came from a VDIK member company. The most frequently newly approved plug-in hybrid is also an imported car.”
From January to September, a total of 223,592 vehicles with alternative drivetrains were newly registered. The strongest alternative drive segment is the hybrid without plug (HEV). In the first three quarters, 136,865 HEVs were newly registered in Germany (plus 90.8 percent). 37 percent of all new hybrids come from VDIK brands. In the HEV segment it must be noted that the Federal Motor Transport Authority currently also includes so-called mild hybrids.
Hydrogen also offers great potential for emission-free mobility. In the year as a whole, 151 fuel cell vehicles were newly registered. Currently, only two international manufacturers in Germany offer fuel cell vehicles that are ready for series production. They account for 98.7 percent of new registrations.
