VDIK Brands Consolidate Strong Position with Alternative Drives
The international manufacturers further consolidated their strong role in alternative drives in Germany in the first quarter. A special domain of the VDIK brands are the classic full hybrids. Here, their market share in Germany was 93 percent in the first quarter.
VDIK President Reinhard Zirpel emphasized: “If you are looking for alternative drive systems in Germany, you have always found them with an international manufacturer. They are particularly well positioned in all alternative powertrains and especially in the classic full hybrid.”
Full hybrids have an additional electric motor powerful enough to drive the vehicle purely electrically. The vehicles can thus achieve a fuel consumption advantage of up to 25 percent over comparable gasoline models. The distinction between mild hybrids and full hybrids has been made by the Federal Motor Transport Authority in the official registration statistics since the beginning of this year.
International manufacturers accounted for 40 percent of all new passenger car registrations with alternative drive systems in the first quarter. Alternative powertrains include full hybrids and mild hybrids, as well as pure electric cars, plug-in hybrids, gas-powered passenger cars and fuel cell vehicles.
In the first quarter, 39 percent of all newly registered purely battery electric passenger cars also bore a VDIK trademark. Plug-in hybrids, on the other hand, are somewhat less important for the international manufacturers (33 percent market share). Only VDIK companies currently offer fuel cell passenger cars that are ready for series production, thus the VDIK market share is 100 percent.
The VDIK regularly updates the list of electric vehicles from international manufacturers. The VDIK member companies currently offer around 150 electric models (passenger cars and commercial vehicles) that customers can order in Germany. The VDIK electric list can be accessed here.
