A total of 244,544 new passenger cars were registered in Germany in November, 130,670 of which had alternative drive systems (purely electric, PHEVs, non-plug-in-hybrids and gas-powered). The market for passenger cars with alternative drive systems is therefore up 5.0% compared to the same month last year. The share of new registrations with alternative drive systems rose to 53.4% in November, up from 50.7% in November 2023. A total of 1,217,653 new vehicles with alternative drive systems rolled onto the roads between January and November. This corresponds to a decrease of 2.6% compared to the same period last year. In the first eleven months of 2024, the share of alternative drive systems reached 47.0% after 48.0% in the same period in 2023.

The strongest increase of 22.3% was achieved by non-plug-in-hybrid vehicles in November. 73,950 new registrations correspond to a 30.2% share of passenger car registrations (November 2023: 24.6%). In the first eleven months of 2024, non-plug-in-hybrid vehicles increased by 12.5% to 684,923 new registrations, with their share rising to 26.4% (January-November 2023: 23.4%).

In contrast, new registrations of purely battery electric passenger cars (BEV) fell by 21.8% to 35,167 units in November. The BEV share of total new passenger car registrations reached 14.4%. In comparison: in November 2023, the BEV market share was 18.3%, after a reduction in purchase subsidies in 2024 had been assumed at the end of the year. Since the beginning of 2024, a total of 347,048 BEVs (-26.1%) have been newly registered, accounting for 13.4% of passenger car registrations.

New registrations of vehicles with plug-in hybrid drive (PHEV) recorded a significant increase in November. 20,604 PHEVs rolled onto the roads, 13.7% more than in the same month last year. The share of all new passenger car registrations rose to 8.4% (November 2023: 7.4%), which once again corresponds to the highest PHEV market share since the end of the purchase subsidy for plug-in hybrids at the end of 2022, following the highs in the previous months. Between January and November 2024, 172,802 PHEVs were newly registered, which is 9.5% more than in the previous

Together, electric vehicles (BEVs, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles) therefore accounted for a market share of 22.8% in November with 55,778 new registrations. This corresponds to a decline of 11.6% compared to November last year. Since the beginning of the year, the market for electric vehicles has fallen by 17.2%. In the first eleven months, 519,891 new electric vehicles were registered. The share of the total passenger car market thus amounted to 20.1 percent.

In addition, 942 LPG passenger cars (+3.2 percent) rolled onto the roads in November. Since the beginning of the year, around 6.5 percent more LPG passenger cars have been newly registered than in the same period last year.

New registrations of combustion passenger cars reached 113,862 units in November, of which 77,352 were petrol (-5.4 percent) and 36,510 diesel (-7.5 percent). Petrol cars accounted for 31.6 percent of passenger car registrations, while diesel cars accounted for 14.9 percent. Since the beginning of the year, 922,615 petrol cars (+2.1 percent) and 452,230 diesel cars (+0.7 percent) have been newly registered.
