Slight decline in the passenger car market in May – sharp drop in all-electric cars
The passenger car market in Germany declined slightly in May compared to the same month last year. New registrations fell by 4.3% to 236,425 units (May 2023: 247,000). “Overall, the passenger car market is developing relatively stably this year,” says Reinhard Zirpel, President of the Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers. “The slump in May registrations of fully electric vehicles is massive. Political signals and countermeasures are now needed quickly to restore consumer confidence in e-mobility. This includes the accelerated expansion of the charging infrastructure as well as strategic approaches to reduce the price of electricity in Germany, which is one of the highest in the EU.”
